An attendees perspective...
A chance encounter
It was mid-March (2018)
and I had gone to the club in midtown Manhattan for breakfast, and had been doing some work from the business center all day.
On learning about a meeting of Conservatives Abroad NYC at the WNRC 3 West 51st Street, I decided to have a look in to see what was happening. I am so glad that I did.
It was a unique opportunity to hear and meet Liam Fox, who serves as the Secretary of State for
International Trade & President of the Board of Trade, Department of International Trade, United Kingdom
gov.uk/dit
Well attended
Guests in attendance, included a noted author - Barbara Taylor Bradford, a movie producer,
financiers, bond traders, media, auction and arts professionals - from the UK, and at least one WNRC club associate, taking it all in.
Points well made
One notable takeaway from his discussion of the British economy, US trade relations and much more, was that
the UK economy is not all - or only - about the trade of goods.
International Services remains a large and growing part of the economy.
Great Britain is perfectly poised to provide a broad range of value added and specialized services, particularly in tandem with
partners in the US economy.
Its an area for growth and opportunity, well beyond what many have normally thought of - particularly in terms of international trade.
This photojournal is a project of QCS, actively engaged in public diplomacy
including posting photos/videos from events of interest,
to promote fruitful and solid UK-USA relations.
Photos and comments are my own. Thank you!
- Joseph Quinn, New York
Mr. Quinn, a New York native, is founder and owner of the international freight forwarding company -
www.sefco-export.com - and consultancy - www.quinncorp.us.com
His policy-oriented experience includes having served as a DC-based national advanceman under President Ronald Reagan's RNC in 1981-2,
and as an organizer of, and participant in, several international "public diplomacy" political exchanges.
Sefco Export's international shipping business
works in tandem with major worldwide ocean carriers such as ACL/Grimaldi (have a look at another photojournal
showing the christening of their newest ship, the GRANDE NEW YORK ), customs brokers & forwarding agents throughout the world,
including our friends at Cory Brothers UK - recently handling the export of high/heavy equipment via RoRo shipping vessel from Liverpool
(and other UK, EU, ports worldwide).
This is a testament to the theme of Mr. Fox's talk, that UK & USA businesses
can do well by cooperating in the field of specialized international services.
Cooperation in business and politics is what makes the world go around.
Please feel free to contact Sefco and Mr. Quinn should you have any
commercial export/import cargo shipping needs. And, always pleased to discuss ways that we can work together in all areas. Sharing our common values, objectives and goals.
